Company:         hiPower Energy SA Group
SPV portfolio companies: hiPower Europe, hiPower IoM, hiPower Labs
Parent company hiPower Energy SA listed on New Connect

Year of establishment: 2023

Sectors: CO2 capture, H2 technologies, energy islands, e-methanol production, green energy production through waste gasification

Business profile of the hiPower Energy Group companies:

The hiPower Energy SA technology group builds supply and value chains around decarbonization of industrial processes and installations through CO2 capture and its processing into alternative fuels using green hydrogen, including low-carbon e-methanol. The company has its own technologies and acts as an integrator of existing solutions on the market. The use of e-methanol enables the faster introduction of green hydrogen-powered devices into the economy, even before a sufficient level of hydrogen infrastructure availability, including storage and transmission of this gas, is achieved.

E-methanol is:

  • a clean, low-emission fuel or additive to traditional fuels, used in both internal combustion engines and fuel cells powered by hydrogen or e-methanol
  • a carrier of green hydrogen as an energy storage medium,
  • a raw material for the synthesis of low-emission chemicals, e.g., aviation kerosene, formaldehyde, acetic acid, and synthetic polymers.

The development work carried out by hiPower Energy SA aims to reduce the production costs of green hydrogen and e-methanol through plasma gasification of biomass and various types of waste.

The company also offers Europe’s first HRP technology for capturing and purifying hydrogen from industrial gases, developed jointly with its Taiwanese partner hiPower as part of a Joint Venture.

In addition, the company is developing globally unique technologies to produce functional layers that refine surfaces (of devices, machines, etc.), giving them specific properties. The key technology is a barrier layer that almost completely seals high-pressure hydrogen tanks.

Key personnel:

President: Dr. Łukasz Nieradko

Chief Scientific Officer (CSO): Prof. Mirosław Miller

Managing Partner: Rafał Gnojnicki

hiPower Energy’s market offer:

  • CCU technologies: services including the separation, purification, liquefaction, and processing of CO2 into alternative fuels or chemical products
  • technology for the catalytic synthesis of e-methanol from low-emission CO2 and green hydrogen
  • consulting on the possibilities of switching engines and generators from traditional fuels to hydrogen or e-methanol
  • plasma-catalytic gasification technology for biomass, including waste biomass and hazardous waste, into synthesis gas and e-fuels
  • technology for producing a barrier layer that limits hydrogen diffusion through the walls of high-pressure tanks or transmission pipelines
  • HRP technology for capturing and purifying hydrogen from industrial gases (e.g., the semiconductor manufacturing sector)
  • design of off-grid energy islands based on a mix of renewable energy sources and energy storage facilities

Profile of potential customers of hiPower Energy Group companies

  • passive capital investors, minority stakes in the parent company or in SPV portfolio companies
  • CO2-emitting companies interested in CO2 capture and processing: energy and heating, cement plants, chemical industry, biogas and biomethane plants, wood and furniture industry
  • hydrogen infrastructure manufacturers, including tanks and pipelines
  • operators of hydrogen-emitting installations (e.g., glassworks, semiconductor manufacturers, and operators of other installations using hydrogen as a protective atmosphere)
  • CO2 and e-methanol distributors
  • producers of green hydrogen (from RES-powered electrolysis) as a chemical feedstock
  • partners with biomass and waste suitable for thermal gasification (significant hydrogen and carbon content)
  • manufacturers of power generators and other equipment powered by green hydrogen (possibility of switching to e-methanol without significant investment and technological changes)
