Andrzej BŁĘDZKI

Studies at the Lodz University of Technology, continued at the University of Halle-Merseburg, where he obtained his doctorate in 1971. Since 1971, assistant professor at the Szczecin University of Technology in the Department of Plastics and Protective Coatings. Scientific internships: DAAD and Humboldt Foundation scholarship, TH Darmstadt, CRNS, Mulhouse in France. After defending his habilitation thesis in 1987 at the Szczecin University of Technology, participation in a competition: appointed in 1988 in the Federal Republic of Germany as a professor in the field of technical sciences at the University of Kassel and still an employee of the Szczecin University of Technology; in 1993, the academic title of professor awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland. After winning another competition, in 1994, appointment to the position of head of the first Department of Plastics Engineering and Recycling in Germany, established on the initiative of an industrial foundation, with the participation of thirty companies. For many years Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kassel, at the same time member of various university bodies. Scientific research within various European projects and German foundations and in direct cooperation with companies. Long-term member of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer Institutes network. Still intensive cooperation with the Szczecin University of Technology (11 projects). Since 2010 intensive cooperation with companies and various Polish institutes within the West Pomeranian University of Technology.

Research topics:

various issues of polymer materials engineering, reinforcement with natural, glass and carbon fibers, microfoams, dynamic properties of multiphase polymer materials, influence of boundary layer and structural defects, aging and corrosion of plastics, utilization of technical plastics. Development of new construction materials based on renewable raw materials is one of the main

International cooperation:

coordination of a number of European projects, direct cooperation with Asian universities and corporations (Japan, China, India), expert of various international bodies, foundations, program councils, etc., visiting professor – various universities in America, Asia and Australia. Doctor h.c. of Riga Polytechnic (2004);irections of research, placing the team in the world's forefront.

Scientific achievements:

scientific publications – 380, full-text conference materials 150, papers (conferences and invitations - including employees) ~330, citations of own publications (according to Web of Science) 14876, h-index 46, books 15, extensive chapters in 4 monographs, patents 35. Belongs to 1% of leading scientists in the world in the discipline of materials engineering in 2022 and 2023 according to the Research.com ranking.

Committee on Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Scientific Council of the Polymer Chemistry Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze, Polish Scientific Forum in Germany (co-founder since 2002 and president until 2012) at the Polish Academy of Sciences Institute in Berlin, CBMiM PAN, Łódź (member of the Scientific Council 2010-2020), Chairman of the Non-metallic Materials Section of the Committee on Materials Engineering and Metallurgy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 2020).
